Show Gratitude
Ibn al-Qayyim said in Madaarij al-Saalikeen (2/242): Faith is of two halves: half is gratitude and half is patience.
Without the help and blessings of Allah, we as human beings would not be able to achieve anything. We owe all the blessings and achievements we have in our lives to Allah. Thus, we forever have to be grateful to Allah.
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favour]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe." Surah Ibrahim Ayat 7
The simplest way to thank Allah is by saying "Alhamdulillah". Meaning, "Praise be to Allah".
Thanking Allah will surely increase your blessings and make you more humble and noble.
Recite the Dua.
Make sure to recite this dua while entering your new house,
أَعـوذُبِكَلِمـاتِ اللّهِ التّـامّـاتِ مِنْ شَـرِّ ما خَلَـق
“A‘udhu bi kalimat Allaah al-taammaat min sharri ma khalaq
"I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created."
Saying this thrice will keep away all harm.
Keep Iblis out of your house.
The simple act of saying Bismillah can go a long way and protect you from Iblis. The Messenger of Allah said, "The angels do not enter a house in which there is an image." (Bukhari / Muslim)
Making sure that you don't display any images or statues in your house. Perform a lot of dhikr and extra prayers in your home. Close your doors and windows and say Bismillah when doing so, particularly when it's dark.
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Do not make your houses as graveyards. Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Baqarah is recited.
This does not only apply to new houses, but to any house, you enter or live in.
Protect your house from envy and evil eyes.
Jealousy is an emotion that resides in everybody's hearts whether we accept it or not. Even if someone is your close family or friend, one could be jealous of you and your successes. Jealousy is a powerful emotion and has a severe effect.
Abu Hurayrah Narrated The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Avoid envy, for envy devours good deeds just as fire devours fuel or (he said) "grass."
You and the others are sure to admire the house, but admiration without protection can cause evil eyes. And evil eyes, too, have similar adverse effects.
Ibn' Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
The influence of an evil eye is a fact; if anything would precede the destiny it would be the influence of an evil eye, and when you are asked to take bath (as a cure) from the influence of an evil eye, you should take bath.
Narrated `Aisha:
The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered me or somebody else to do Ruqya (if there was danger) from an evil eye.
You can ward off evil eyes by saying Masha Allah and reciting the "Ayatul-Kursi". Some popular surahs that are recited to avoid evil eyes and envy are Surah-Al-Fatiha, Surah-Al-Falaq, and Surah-An-Nas.
Invite people over.
Inviting people over to your house and treating them with food is a way of showing gratitude to Allah. It says in al-Mawsoo'ah al-Fiqhiyyah (8/206): Holding a feast after acquiring property is mustahabb, like all kinds of feasts that are given on happy occasions or to ward off evil. It is called "Wakeerah".
Stay away from false customs and Superstitions.
In the present day, one can easily deviate from the teachings of the Quran and follow traditions and customs. Some have made it a custom to place the Holy Quran in the new house while entering it for the first time.
However, there is no saying in the Al-Quran nor Sunnah acts of Prophet Muhammed or Hadiths that states or verifies these acts. Thus, it is advised to forbid all these superstitious acts as Allah forbids them.
That said, nothing is impossible if you want to make it happen with Allah's help. We've been given a blessed chance to help you get there. If you are interested, get in touch with Afiyah!
